Dear Colorado Wine Club Member,
Those members who were able to make the Wine Lover’s Dessert Night on Feb. 10th enjoyed a real treat, or rather several real treats. We paired five desserts with five wines for 26 attendees and had a lovely time, thanks to Chef Diana Tarasiewicz. We’ll continue to offer special food and wine events throughout the year, so keep your ears perked up, and check your email frequently.
On another note, we’re starting to enter the danger zone in the vineyard. What we’re hoping for is not too much early warmth, which would cause the grapevines to come out of dormancy too soon, making them susceptible to late spring frostbite. If you pray, pray for a smooth and easy warming trend from now ‘till the middle of May.
Enclosed are your Wine Club bottles. This month’s wines for the Dry Colorado Wine Club are:
2005 Lemberger, Tyrannosaurus Red, Carlson Vineyards Lemberger is a red grape uncommon in the US, but rather popular in Germany. It makes a wide variety of styles, but this particular wine has aromas and flavors of sweet cherries, plums and boysenberries. It is dark red and dry, with oak undertones. A long supple finish makes this a nice addition to our lineup. This wine would pair nicely with lamb chops, grilled or braised with sage and rosemary. Add some olive oil fried potato medallions with and dill, steamed baby spinach with olive oil and fresh ground parmesan cheese and you’ve got a real treat.
2004 Cabernet Franc, Mesa Grande Vineyards This wine snuck up on everybody. It’s a gold medal winner from the 2006 Winefest Competition, and it packs some serious flavors. It’s dark red and rich, with aromas of blackberries, plums, currants and smoke. Intense and structured with aging potential of a decade or two. Open this bottle with a top quality elk or buffalo steak and you’ll really be in the Rockies.
As always, enjoy the wines in good health!
Sincerely,
Glenn & Natalie Foster |
