Dear Colorado Wine Club Member,
By the time you get this, we may be either full or too late to get you into the Strolling Tapas event on Friday, August 24th, but there’s hope! We’re doing it again on Thursday, September 13th for Wine Fest. Unfortunately, we can’t offer the Wine Club discount price this time, as ticketing is through DMT Catering. This will be another fabulous display of Spanish appetizers expertly paired with delicious Colorado wines, presented in quantities fit for a full meal. Sign up and come hungry! For August 24th reservations, call 858-6330. For September 13th reservations, call 241-1865.
Enclosed are your Wine Club bottles. This month’s wines for the Dry Colorado Wine Club are:
2005 Merlot, Stoney Mesa Winery This medium bodied Merlot is a great example of why Merlot is still the most consumed red wine in the country. It’s mild mannered, smooth and yet full of flavor, all at a reasonably young age. The nose conjures up roses, cinnamon and cedar. In the mouth are plum and oak notes, along with a bit of tannic structure. The finish is long and clean. This is a great Colorado Merlot, and at a very reasonable price. This wine would go beautifully with a rich cream cheese artichoke spinach dip with pita chips and crispy veggies.
2006 Chardonnay, Bookcliff Vineyards This classic Chardonnay is made using 1/3 new French barrels, and 2/3 stainless barrels, using the sur lies method. The sur lies method involves stirring the barrels rather frequently, say every other week for the first 2 month after fermentation, then every three weeks for the next 4 months. This gets the yeast, which normally settles to the bottom of the barrels, mixed up with the wine and gives the wine a richer, creamier texture and flavor. This method is used by most of the top quality producers.
As always, enjoy the wines in good health!
Sincerely,
Glenn & Natalie Foster |
