Dear Colorado Wine Club Member, This month’s wine club, though late, is as tasty and unique as the last. My sincere apologies for the tardiness. As you might imagine, with the acquisition of three wine labels and two more buildings, I’ve got armloads of challenges to wrestle. It’s now mid-November and the leaves are mostly gone from the vines by now. We’ve not been horribly cold, but still we’ve had some very nippy mornings. The vines are getting very sleepy in preparation for the cold season. We hope you had a magical Halloween and that your autumn is deeply colored in whatever fashion it can be. Enclosed are your Wine Club bottles. This month’s wines for the Dry Colorado Wine Club are: 2005 Pinot Noir, S. Rhodes This is a rare wine from the West Elks American Viticultural Area. There is very little Pinot Noir grown in Colorado, so don’t miss this chance to sit down and get to know it over a meal. We found it very light, in body and color, which is of course typical of wines made from this grape in Colorado. The nose is perfumey and medium intensity. In the mouth you’ll find a touch of tart along with good flavor and a grapey note found in many Pinots. Try it with lamb chops with rosemary and garlic, and asparagus and potatoes au gratin. It’ll be a hit. 2005 Merlot, Boulder Creek Definitely heavier and more robust, with darker color to match. This is a stout wine that will be relished by the true heavy red aficionado now, and will be more broadly appealing in a couple of years. It will age gracefully for at least five years if kept under proper conditions. You’ll notice significant tannic structure with a goodly portion of it coming from oak barrels. Winemaker Jackie Thompson has done a great job of making good wines in the short time she’s been in the business. Well done, Jackie! As always, enjoy the wines in good health! Sincerely,
Glenn & Natalie Foster |
