Dear Colorado Wine Club Member,

Mid-March is showing us an early spring.  The Globe Willows are budding already and fruit growers across the valley are trying to finish up pruning.  It’s a bit scary for farmers, but that’s agriculture.  At this time, we are approximately 12 days ahead of normal.  With temperatures in the 70’s forecast for the coming weekend, the situation will only worsen.  The danger here is that the fruit trees and vines awaken from their winter slumber too early, come out of bed, and get caught with a late spring frost.  If you dance, dance for cool weather and moisture.

Enclosed are your Wine Club bottles.  This month’s wines for the Sweet Colorado Wine Club are:

Boulder Creek Zinfandel Port

This non-vintage wine almost defines a new class of beverage – the Very Rich Dessert Wine (VRDW).  It is classic in style, rich and sweet with just a bit of oak.  Look for a deep, dark color, roses and perfume in the nose, raisins and figs in the mouth.  This wine is 19% alcohol, so beware the sucker punch.  If you like cigars or dark chocolate, this wine goes well with both.

2007 White Merlot, Boulder Creek

This smooth drinking, semi-sweet blush has a bit of vanilla with peaches and pink grapefruit in the nose.  It is crisp and satisfying on a warm spring day.  It’s no surprise that it won a gold medal at the Taster’s Guild in 2008.  This one is a crowd pleaser.  If you like this, we’ll have just a few bottles left that you can buy at your Wine Club discount.

As always, enjoy the wines in good health!

Truly,

Glenn & Natalie Foster
