Dear Colorado Wine Club Member,

Mid-March is showing us an early spring.  The Globe Willows are budding already and fruit growers across the valley are trying to finish up pruning.  It’s a bit scary for farmers, but that’s agriculture.  At this time, we are approximately 12 days ahead of normal.  With temperatures in the 70’s forecast for the coming weekend, the situation will only worsen.  The danger here is that the fruit trees and vines awaken from their winter slumber too early, come out of bed, and get caught with a late spring frost.  If you dance, dance for cool weather and moisture.

Enclosed are your Wine Club bottles.  This month’s wines for the Vintner’s Colorado Wine Club are:

Sutcliffe 2006 Signature Merlot

Brace yourself . . . this wine is a monster!  If you like your wines heavy, tannic, high powered and fruity, by all means open this wine right away.  If you like a little more reserved wine, you’ll have to wait.  Give it at least three more years if that’s your style.  Look for cedar and raisins in the nose along with cherries and black currants in the mouth.  This one needs a little time to tame down, in my opinion.

Boulder Creek 2007 Chardonnay

This fine example of white Burgundy won a gold medal at the Colorado Mountain Winefest.  This is truly a dry wine with a full body and strong varietal character.  It was barrel fermented in new Hungarian and French oak.  Jackie Thompson, winemaker at Boulder Creek, has done it again.  Way to go Jackie!

As always, enjoy the wines in good health!

Truly,

Glenn & Natalie Foster
